EMMA HETHERINGTON
I’m a content and communications professional who's passionate about helping bring brands to life. Whether you’re trying to explain why your organisation exists, engage with more potential customers, influence the influencers, change people’s behaviour or encourage them to buy, it starts with your content and communications.
Let me help you achieve great results.
comms strategy
Are your key messages relevant, consistent and working hard for you across your website, in social, in print, in emails and the media?
I develop comms strategies that understand your business challenges and seamlessly integrate all your content channels in ways that make real sense for your customers. This means you are more visible, you stand out from the competition and your content works harder for you.
content design
Content design is more than just good quality writing and editing. It’s about developing the best possible way to deliver information. From an explainer video, to powerful images or inspirational customer testimonials, my content design approach is informed by analysis and insights. It focuses on user-centred content and language, constantly learns from what works and what doesn’t to ensure a business is getting the best results. And the customer is getting what they need.
podcasting
Podcasting is one of the fastest growing, new content channels for organisations. Podcasts fit into busy lifestyles. They’re entertaining and informational. They can be bitesize or longer form. And they can be accessed pretty much anywhere, whether you’re driving the car or listening in bed. With a background in BBC radio journalism, I produce and, if necessary, present podcast series both in studio settings and out on location.
ABOUT ME
From the Head of Communications at Hastoe Housing Association and the Head of Content & News at Diabetes UK to the Director of Content and Innovation at Weight Watchers, I have a wealth of comms experience across public sector, commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
I enjoy working with organisations with a mission to make a difference and I'm passionate about developing and delivering integrated content strategies that help make that happen.
Starting out as a BBC radio journalist, I worked at Radio Merseyside in Liverpool and then Radio Foyle in Northern Ireland before becoming a producer - and ultimately daily editor - on the iconic Radio 4 Woman’s Hour programme. It was in this immediate and intimate medium that I learned how to spot a great story and tell a great story.
I also learned all the audio tips and tricks that make today’s podcasts compelling and a good listen.
Outside of my Comms work, I'm a volunteer tour guide at Beverley Minster (with a bit of marketing support thrown in) and I enjoy walking friends' dogs on the local Westwood.
